Moon Walk - Group Stargazing Experience

Ten days each month, the moon shines brightly in the evening sky. If the tide is low enough, we may go for a stroll on this beautiful, moonlit, white-sand beach, gazing at the moon's features up close and hearing her stories. Be prepared for moonlight shimmering on the waves!

Good Heavens' Moon Walk takes place at Medlands Beach on Aotea Great Barrier Island, a scenic 90km, 4.5 hours by ferry from Central Auckland, or half an hour by plane from Auckland Domestic Airport. Our meeting spot is only 50 metres from the car park — easily accessible, even for the less sure-footed.

Comfy, enlightening and entertaining
From the top of the dunes, we'll look through our 8" Dobsonian Telescope to get close and personal with the brightest stars and celestial objects, many unique to the Southern Hemisphere. Relax in a comfy moon chair as you take in our Dark Sky Sanctuary sky and listen to the waves lap against the shore.

Facts and stories
Our guide will draw constellations and share multicultural stories and astronomical facts, while you enjoy a hot chocolate or herbal tea. Afterwards, we'll send you a summary of everything you spotted. Moongazing doesn't get more enjoyable than this!

Top tips:

• Our small groups of up to twelve participants ensure a personalised experience.
• There is a minimum of 4 participants for the experience to go ahead.
• For the purpose of your booking, a child is aged 8–12 years old.
• An overnight stay on Aotea Great Barrier Island is required to come stargazing with us.
