Imagine a stargazing experience with the sound of the ocean in the background. An experience that is cosy, comfortable and personalised, so that you can absorb the moment, the stories and the stars. 

You can expect this with Good Heavens: we will bring blankets, moon chairs, hot chocolate and home baked brownies. As well as experienced local and knowledgeable guides who love to entertain you with stellar stories and facts. 

There is plenty of time for questions and answers.

Our guides are happy to delve into your areas of interest. A private stargazing experience allows for this kind of personalisation. Our guides own the business and care you have the best experience possible. 

Stargazing tools

An 8″ Newtonian Dobsonian telescope, binoculars, comfy chairs, blankets and hot chocolate or herbal teas are part of the Experience, either at your accommodation or at beautiful Medlands beach. 

Please let us know where you are staying so that we can determine whether the beach, your accommodation or a spot nearby with a clear view of the sky is best for your experience. If you have little ones who will be asleep, please let us know this also.

Celestial objects

During your experience, we will look at stars, constellations, planets and some deep sky objects. If you have special stellar requests, we
will do our best to fulfill these, if the object is in the evening sky. 

Please note that when the moon takes centre stage, the Milky Way recedes from our view. Check the calendar for our Moon Walk Experience for the weeks when the moon is large in the evening sky.

One-off or stepping stone

Whether you are looking for a one-off fun experience or a steppingstone for further stellar exploration, your Good Heavens guide can
provide either. We welcome questions and conversation about the universe and beyond and will send you an email with details of your experience the day after your experience.

• A Good Heavens Private Stargazing Experience lasts for approx. 2 hrs.
• A child is under 13 for the purpose of your booking.
• An overnight stay on Aotea Great Barrier Island is required to come
  stargazing with us.

We recommend staying at least two nights, to double your chances of a clear sky, and to enjoy more of what our beautiful island has to offer in
the daytime, too.

Good Heavens offer stargazing packages which include

• At least 3 nights premium accommodation, 
• Return flights to the island, 
• 4WD rental car for the duration of your stay and of course, 
• Your stargazing experience!

Stargazing on yachts: 

* Your guide can come on board with binoculars, their knowledge and a laser pen. However, telescopes don't work on board.

* We recommend a landbased stargazing experience 

* In calm weather it is possible to tender to your stargazing experience at Medlands Beach

* We're sometimes able to use a location at Port Fitzroy. Check availability with us. 

* We are based in the south of Aotea. A travel charge applies for experiences north of Awana.
